Prius hybrid generator issue
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Toyota Prius hybrid is experiencing reduced engine power, a warning light, starting issues, and flickering lights, with an error code present. The initial suspicion is a generator issue, although the 12V battery was tested and seemed fine. A similar case suggested that a faulty generator could be the cause, and professional diagnosis is recommended to confirm and resolve the problem.

I did test the 12V battery, and it seems okay. But could a slightly degraded battery still cause these symptoms even if it passes a basic voltage test? I was thinking the generator might not be charging it efficiently.

Hmm, if the 12V checks out, it does sound like the generator. I chased my tail for weeks trying to figure it out, but in the end, I had to take it to a workshop. They confirmed the generator was kaput. Cost me around 960€ to replace, but it fixed everything. I’d recommend getting it checked out professionally before throwing parts at it.

I suspected as much, and your experience reinforces my conclusion. I will schedule an appointment with a trusted mechanic to diagnose the generator. Thanks; this has been most helpful.

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I have a Prius too. I had similar issues a while back – the car wouldn't start properly, and the lights were doing a disco. Have you checked your 12V battery? Sometimes a weak battery can cause all sorts of weird electrical problems in these cars.
