Prius Reduced Engine Power Fault Code

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2000 Toyota Prius hybrid. It's only got 53648 km on the clock, but I'm getting a fault code. The dashboard light is on, and the car feels like it has reduced engine power. I scanned it with a cheap auto scanner, and it showed an error stored. Could this be related to some chip tuning the previous owner did?

I also own a Prius. I had similar symptoms – reduced power and an error code after some third-party work. Have you checked the specific fault code? That might give you a better idea of where to start looking.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did note the fault code, but it didn't make much sense to me. Something about the engine management system... did your error code point to a specific sensor or component? Trying to figure out if it's worth digging deeper myself or just taking it to a workshop.

In my case, the error code pointed towards a potential issue caused by the tuning messing with the engine's standard parameters. Considering you also suspect chip tuning, it's probably best to take it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose if the tuning is indeed the problem and revert it if necessary.

Took your advice and went to a workshop. Turns out the chip tuning was indeed the culprit! They reverted it to the original settings, and the error is gone, plus the power is back. Cost me 180€, but worth it. Thanks for the help!
