Qashqai reduced engine power
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2011 Nissan Qashqai experiencing reduced engine power, with an error memory indicating a potential ECU problem. The issue was suspected to be caused by a defective computer module, but it was later identified as a defective main relay. The solution involved taking the car to a workshop, where the main relay was replaced, resolving the problem and restoring the car's performance.

Thanks! Regarding the main relay, can I easily check that myself, or does it require special equipment? Where is it located?

It's probably best to have a workshop take a look, especially if you're not super familiar with automotive electronics. It's difficult to diagnose remotely. Given the symptoms and the error code, I'd say go to a professional. It was a defective main relay in my case, though. Hope that helps.

Appreciate the help! Took your advice and brought it to the workshop. Turns out the main relay was indeed defective. Repair cost was 120€. Car's running perfectly now.

Hello, where is the main relay located that is related to the ECU? Qashqai 2011 81 kw. Thank you in advance for your answer.

The main relay in a 2011 Nissan Qashqai is typically located in the engine compartment fuse box. You can find the fuse box near the battery. Inside the fuse box cover, there should be a diagram indicating the location of the main relay. If you're planning to inspect or replace it, ensure the vehicle is turned off and the keys are removed from the ignition for safety. If you have any further questions or need more assistance, feel free to ask!

Allow me one more question. The car has 145,000 km. 3 injectors were faulty. A fault code also indicated this. All 4 injectors have been replaced! New codes entered and accepted. Currently the car is free of fault codes. The following is the error phenomenon: while driving, when using engine braking, the engine slightly rattles until I slightly press the brake pedal! It's as if it receives a little more fuel. With slight braking, even with engine braking, it's no longer audible! Has anyone encountered a similar problem? Thank you in advance for your answers, Zsolt.

It's possible that the rattling noise during engine braking could be related to the engine mounts or exhaust system components. These can sometimes cause vibrations or noises when the engine is under different loads. I recommend checking the engine mounts for wear or damage and inspecting the exhaust system for any loose parts. If the issue persists, it might be worth having a professional mechanic take a closer look to ensure everything is functioning correctly. Please let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!

This sound definitely comes from the engine. I thought that some coolant might be leaking, but then it wouldn't stop when braking. Let's continue searching for the fault. Thank you for your answer!

I had a similar experience with my Qashqai. Reduced power and ECU error codes. Does it happen more often in certain weather, or after the engine has been running? I always check the basics first. Main relay failures can cause weird ECU problems. Have you looked at that?
