Renegade Diesel Blower Motor Dies, Fix Guide
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a 2021 Renegade Diesel with a blower motor failure, leading to a completely non-functional climate control system. The problem is identified as a blower motor fault, potentially accompanied by damage to the fan speed controller, as indicated by a faint rattling noise prior to failure. Suggested solutions include replacing the blower motor and possibly the controller, with a workshop handling the repairs to prevent further damage. The expected repair cost is around 400 Euro, based on similar experiences shared in the discussion.

Last service was at 55000 KM and everything ran fine until today. The electrical wiring seems intact after initial inspection. The climate control panel does light up normally, but nothing happens when adjusting settings. Started hearing a faint rattling from the heater fan area about a week ago when running at higher speeds. Good to know about the potential link between motor and controller, will help when discussing repairs with the workshop. The air flow being completely dead rather than just weak suggests a total motor failure rather than just debris.

Thanks for the additional details. The rattling noise you heard matches exactly what happened with my Compass before complete failure, its a classic sign of the blower motor bearings wearing out. Since your climate control panel functions normally while the air circulation is completely dead, this confirms my suspicion of a blower motor failure rather than an electrical system issue. The fan speed controller might also be affected, as damaged bearings often cause electrical spikes that can harm the controller. In my case, running the blower at high speeds with failing bearings eventually led to complete motor seizure. Based on your description, youre facing the same problem I did. Attempting to run the system with a faulty blower motor risks further damage to the air flow control components. Given the repair costs for parts alone, having a workshop handle the full replacement is the most practical solution. The blower motor assembly costs around 180 Euro, and a new controller adds roughly 85 Euro. Make sure they check the entire air flow system during repair to prevent any repeat issues. Worth noting that after my repair, the air circulation has been perfect for over 18 months now, with no climate control problems since.

Those rattling symptoms definitely match what others described, and the quote range seems reasonable based on the parts needed. Called my usual workshop and they can check it tomorrow morning. Their initial assessment also points to the blower motor, and they mentioned the same concern about the fan speed controller potentially being damaged. Really hoping the repair costs stay around 400 Euro like your case. The complete lack of air flow makes sense now, appears the heater fan bearings were gradually failing over the past week until complete seizure. Should have probably had it checked when the rattling first started, but at least caught it before winter. Thanks for sharing your repair details, helps to know what to expect with the workshop tomorrow. Just to close this out, will update the thread once the repair is done in case it helps others with similar HVAC system issues in their Renegades.

I had a similar issue with my 2019 Compass Diesel last winter. Have moderate experience working on cars but the HVAC system was beyond my comfort zone for DIY repairs. The heater fan completely stopped working, no airflow whatsoever regardless of fan speed settings. The blower motor was indeed the culprit, but the fan speed controller also needed replacement since it was damaged from the failing motor. Took it to a workshop where they diagnosed and fixed the issue in about 3 hours. Total cost was 365 Euro including parts and labor. The repair involved: Removing the glove box to access the blower motor, Testing the HVAC system electrical connections, Replacing both the blower motor and controller unit, Running diagnostics to clear fault codes Before suggesting specific fixes, what year is your Renegade and have you noticed any unusual sounds from the heater fan before it failed completely? Also, does your climate control panel still light up normally? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced. The cabin fan failure can sometimes be related to debris buildup or electrical issues, so knowing the vehicle history and symptoms would be helpful to guide you further.
