S10 Overheating Bypass Valve Code
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Chevrolet S10 is experiencing overheating and a bypass valve error code. Initial checks for vacuum leaks revealed nothing. A suggestion was made to investigate the exhaust system for back pressure issues, such as a clogged catalytic converter, which could trigger the bypass valve code. Upon further inspection, a blockage in the exhaust system was identified and cleared, resolving the issue without any cost.

Exhaust system... interesting. I assumed the bypass valve itself was faulty. When you say back pressure, are we talking like, a clogged catalytic converter situation?

Could be! Mine wasn't the cat, but somewhere in the system causing too much pressure. The engine management system probably detects the pressure and throws the bypass valve code thinking it's the issue. Honestly, best bet is to get it on a diagnostic machine at a decent workshop.

Cheers, appreciate the insight! Turns out you were spot on. Some component in the exhaust was blocked. All cleared up and the bypass valve code is gone, no cost at all!

Whoa, overheating is no joke! I had a similar scare with my S10 – though not sure what year yours is – turned out to be a consequential error. Basically, the bypass valve code popped up BECAUSE of another problem in the exhaust system causing back pressure. Ever looked into that?
