S40 Diesel Jerking Hissing Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Volvo S40 diesel is experiencing jerking during acceleration, a loud hissing sound from the engine, stalling, increased fuel consumption, and reduced power, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause is a faulty boost pressure sensor or a bad connection. The issue was resolved by replacing the boost pressure sensor and repairing a damaged connector, costing 95€.

You mention a similar problem with your Peugeot. Can you tell me what the diagnosis and fix were? Were there any diagnostic steps that helped find the problem?

Well, I never really figured out exactly what it was. I took my Peugeot to the shop. They plugged it in, read some codes, and told me something was wrong with the turbo. I just paid the bill and drove away. I'd say just get it to a workshop. Those symptoms seem pretty serious, and you don't want to damage other parts.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll get it checked by a technician ASAP and will post an update. It was the boost pressure sensor and a damaged connector! 95€ later and she's purring again. Thanks!

Wow, that sounds rough. The check engine light is always annoying. My Peugeot 307 had similar symptoms a while back – the jerking and hissing, though not the stalling. I just ignored it for ages, thinking it was nothing. Are you sure it's the boost pressure sensor? Could be something else in the turbo system, right? I'm no expert, but those symptoms sound familiar.
