Sail Cylinder Pressure Fluctuation

I have a 2012 Chevrolet Sail, diesel engine, with 134049 km. I've noticed higher fuel consumption and reduced engine power recently. The check engine light also comes on intermittently. I scanned for codes and it points to cylinder pressure fluctuation. Could this be a faulty fuel injector or a head gasket issue?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Chevrolet Sail with a diesel engine exhibited higher fuel consumption, reduced power, and an intermittent check engine light, with a diagnostic code indicating cylinder pressure fluctuation. Possible causes considered were a faulty fuel injector, head gasket issue, or crankshaft position sensor malfunction. After professional diagnosis, the issue was identified as a consequential error from another problem, which was resolved without part replacement, restoring normal engine function.

Cylinder pressure fluctuation can be tricky. While a faulty fuel injector or head gasket could be the cause, it might also be a consequential error. Have you noticed any unusual engine knocking or checked your spark plugs recently? A bad crankshaft position sensor can also trigger similar symptoms.

Thanks for the quick response. No engine knocking that I can hear, and the spark plugs were changed recently. How likely is it to be the crankshaft position sensor, and would that cause the check engine light to come on and report cylinder pressure issues?

Yes, a faulty crankshaft position sensor definitely could trigger the check engine light and cause misreporting of cylinder pressure. It disrupts timing. Given your symptoms, and without being able to diagnose in person, it's difficult to say the exact cause. It's best to get a professional diagnosis to pinpoint the root cause before replacing parts.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and as you suspected, the error was a consequential error resulting from another error. They fixed it without replacing anything and the final repair cost was 0€. Everything seems to be running smoothly now.
