Seat Cordoba engine knock and poor performance
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Seat Cordoba with a gasoline engine is experiencing engine knock, poor performance, higher fuel consumption, and uneven idling, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause is a defective knock sensor or its wiring. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by diagnosing and repairing a break in the sensor's cable using a multimeter. Replacing the defective cable resolved the problem, improving the car's performance and turning off the check engine light.

Interesting! I suspected the knock sensor, but I didn't think about the wiring. How did you diagnose the wiring issue specifically? Was it visibly damaged, or did you have to use a multimeter?

In my case, there was no visible damage. The mechanic diagnosed it using a multimeter to check the continuity of the wires. It turned out there was a break in the cable. If you are not comfortable doing that yourself, I would recommend taking it to a workshop. They can diagnose the issue properly.

Thank you very much for your help. You were spot on. I took it to a workshop, and it turned out to be a defective knock sensor cable indeed. They replaced it, and the car runs smoothly now. The repair set me back 95€, but it was worth it to get rid of the poor performance and that annoying engine light.

That sounds very familiar. I had a similar issue with my Opel Astra a while back. The symptoms were almost identical: check engine light, rough idling, and terrible fuel consumption. It ended up being a faulty knock sensor as well. Have you checked the wiring and connections to the sensor? That was the culprit in my case.
