Seat Cordoba rough running and smoking
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Seat Cordoba with a diesel engine is experiencing rough running, excessive smoking, reduced power, and increased fuel consumption, accompanied by a check engine light and a hissing sound. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the EGR valve, possibly being stuck or causing a vacuum leak. The recommended solution is to have the EGR valve inspected and possibly replaced by a professional, as confirmed by a similar case where the repair cost was 355€.

Fuel smell as well? I haven't noticed that, but I'll check. What did you do to fix yours? Did you try cleaning it?

Fuel smell can be a symptom. I didn't try to clean it myself. I'm not that confident with car repair and emission stuff. I took it to a workshop. They confirmed it was the EGR valve. If it's that bad, you probably have a vacuum leak. It's best to get it checked properly, especially with those engines needing to pass strict vehicle emissions tests.

Sounds like the EGR valve. I had a similar problem with my Cordoba some time ago. Check engine light, rough running, the whole deal. Does it smell like fuel too?
