Seat Formentor Diesel Engine Troubles

I'm about at my wit's end! My 2021 Seat Formentor with a diesel engine is giving me absolute grief. The check engine light is on, power is seriously reduced, and the engine response is just plain awful. Sometimes, it even stalls at idle! Fuel consumption is through the roof, and there's this distinct whistling noise, along with a loud hissing sound when I accelerate. Sounds like a bad boost pressure system, right? I'm suspecting a defect in the wastegate valve, but before I shell out a fortune, has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be turbo lag related? Any thoughts on whether it could be a simple pressure sensor issue?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Seat Formentor with a diesel engine is experiencing significant issues, including a check engine light, reduced power, poor engine response, stalling at idle, increased fuel consumption, and distinct whistling and hissing noises. The suspected cause is a defect in the wastegate valve, potentially related to the boost pressure system. Suggestions include checking the MAP sensor, throttle body, and inspecting for faulty hoses. Ultimately, the problem was confirmed to be the wastegate valve, which was replaced, resolving the issues.

That sounds incredibly frustrating! I had a similar experience with my Seat Leon, though it's not a Formentor. Check engine light, power loss… the whole shebang. Have you checked your MAP sensor and throttle body? Those were the culprits in my case. Could that whistling noise be related to the boost pressure leak, maybe a faulty hose somewhere?

Interesting you mention the MAP sensor and throttle body. When you say 'checked,' do you mean visually inspected, or did you use some kind of diagnostic tool? And how did you pinpoint the faulty hose? Was it obvious, or did you need some kind of smoke test?

I just visually inspected the MAP sensor and throttle body, nothing too fancy. Regarding the hose, that was a bit trickier. I could hear the hissing, but couldn't pinpoint it. In the end, I took it to a workshop, and they found a split in one of the boost pressure hoses. Honestly, if you're hearing hissing, and suspect the wastegate valve, I'd say it's probably best to get it checked out by a professional. Could save you a lot of time and potential headaches!

Seat Formentor saga conclusion Just got it back from the garage. Turns out it WAS the wastegate valve, just as suspected. New valve, a bit of labor, and 860€ later, she's purring like a kitten again. Thanks a million for the advice; it really helped me go in knowing what to expect!
