Seeking Advice for Overheating Issue and Possible Faulty Coolant Bypass Valve in 2020 Fiat Cronos

Check engine light on

Overheating

Hey, got a weird issue with my 2020 Fiat Cronos that runs on gas. It's acting funny - overheating, and the check engine light keeps popping up. I suspect this might have something to do with the engine coolant bypass valve not working right, but thought I'd check if anybody else has encountered something similar. How did you guys sort it out when you took it to the service center? Would appreciate any tips or past experiences you might have dealing with this. Thanks!

Hey there! I tackled a similar problem wit my 2018 Fiat Tipo. I'm no car whiz, only some hands-on experience. The mechanic narrowed down the issue to a defective Coolant bypass valve cable connection. The team at my workshop was pretty helpful, explained the issue clearly, and sorted it out promptly. Price tag was around 155€ - not exactly lunch money. Anyway, it'd be great if you could share a bit more about your car's condition - like has it been serviced recently, any prior issues, how many miles on it, etc. That info could help us advise you a bit more specifically. Good luck with it!

Hey, thanks for getting back to me! I kind of had the same hunch - something up with the valve or cables. My latest service was just a couple of months back at around 170K km on the odometer. Haven't had many significant issues prior to this, given my car's age. However, my Cronos has clocked 174476 km now, so it's got some mileage. Looks like another trip to the garage is in order! Hope it doesn't break the bank. Cheers!

Hey, no worries! Glad my experience could shed some light on your issue. Your Cronos has indeed been driven quite a bit, that might explain the wear and tear on parts like the valve and cables. My Tipo was roughly around the same mileage when I faced the overheating and engine light issue. Strange thing - cars and their coincidences! I would definitely recommend heading back to the garage. In my case, the valve switch and the cable overhaul cost me about 155 Euro as I shared earlier. Hopefully it won't cost you more than that, given our models aren't drastically different. When you get it checked, let the mechanic know about the symptoms and your suspicion, that should give him a head start on pin-pointing the issue. Remember, the key is to get it sorted ASAP. A minor issue can evolve into a major one if left unattended. Good luck again and keep updating us on how it goes! Cheers!

Thanks! I really appreciate your detailed response - clears a lot of things up for me. It sure seems like we've been hit with a bit of car twin magic, doesn't it? I'll certainly make my way back to the garage soon and let them know about my guesses. I'll also keep an eye on that possible 155 euro expense you mentioned - fingers crossed it doesn't go beyond that. Thank you again for all your advice. It's great to find such active helpers in this community. I'll pop back in and give you a post-repair update. Till then, happy motoring! Cheers!
