Seeking Solutions for 2004 Lexus SC's A/C Issues Suspected to be Related to Air Conditioning Control Valve

Air conditioning blows warm air

A/C System Not Engaging

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hey everyone, I've been having a bit of a strange issue with my 2004 Lexus SC. Recently, the A/C has been blowing out warm air, with heating and cooling functions not really working well, and sometimes the A/C doesn't even seem to engage at all. I suspect it could be something to do with the air conditioning control valve but not entirely sure. Has anybody experienced something similar before? Interested to hear how you or your mechanic identified and tackled the problem. Cheers!

Hey there! Sounds like a tricky issue you've got, but don't worry, been there, done that. I had the same problem with my 2006 Lexus IS not too long ago. I've got some experience, not an expert but know enough to make do. Got the AC inspected at my local workshop. Turns out, it was leaking. Fixed it for 495 Euro, which wasn't cheap but had to be done. It might be worth getting your SC checked for an AC leak too. Can you share the current mileage and maintenance history? Might help to figure out what could be wrong and possibly save you a few bucks. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion! The mileage on my SC is 95941 KM at the moment, and the last service was done just a couple of months ago. They didn't find any issues then but I guess something could have developed or been overlooked. I'll definitely get it checked for an AC leak. That cost is a bit steep but cheaper than a complete new system, right! Finger crossed it's not something major. Cheers for the advice.

Hey, no worries at all! Yeah, you're on the right track, even the best serviced cars can develop unusual issues, just one of those things in life. Your Lexus isn't very high on mileage considering its age, so she's been taken care of well it seems! Getting a minor repair like a leak fixed now can indeed save you a lot of money down the road, and it's definitely much cheaper than overhauling the whole A/C system. Keep in mind though, the cause could be the control valve like you initially suspected, but it's less likely compared to a leak. Make sure to mention both possibilities to the mechanic and have them check. Good luck with this and do let us know how you get on so that others can benefit from your experience! Cheers!

Thanks so much for letting me know what might be going on. Being a bit of a car enthusiast, it pains me to think I could have overlooked something! But you're right, things can develop at any point. I'll be sure to tell the mechanic about the control valve and the potential leak. I'll get the car in for an inspection soon and fingers crossed it's a quick fix. I'll definitely keep you all updated once I find out what's going on. Thanks again for all the help and good vibes! Cheers!
