Seeking Solutions for 2017 Mazda 6 Diesel's Engine Light, Power Drop and Unpleasant Jerking Issues

Stalling while idling

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hey! I've got a bit of a puzzler with my 2017 Mazda 6 Diesel. The engine light is on, power has dropped, it's running like it's got problems with unpleasant jerking when I try to accelerate. Gets even weirder, with it stalling out on idle and spewing black smoke when I hit the gas. I'm thinking it could be an issue with the intake manifold's swirl flaps. Anyone faced something similar or got some insights on troubleshooting this? Would love to hear how you got it sorted at the workshop. Cheers!

Hey! I had a similar problem with my 2015 Mazda 3 Hatchback. Now, I'm no car pro but I have some experience messing about with engines. I noticed the same jerky runs and the dreaded engine light. Took my girl to the workshop and turned out it was indeed an issue with the intake manifold. Sure enough, it was leaking due to charring. Fact is, it's a bit of a hefty fix, ran me about 1180 Euro to get it right. Do you know any more specifics about your vehicle, like any past engine troubles or modifications you made? It'll be a bit easier to share more detailed advice with that info. Anyway, hope this helps. Keep us posted!

Hey! Thanks for the tip! Not too stoked about the hefty price tag, though. My baby's been running smoothly, no prior engine troubles or any majors modifications, just regular tune-ups and servicing. She got her last service at 43238 KM with a clean bill of health. So, this problem really threw me for a loop. But I suppose it's better safe than sorry. I'll look into the intake manifold issue and see what the workshop guys make of it. Cheers for the help!

No worries. Yeah, it's always a bummer when these issues spring up out of nowhere, especially if your car's been ticking along fine. If there's been no major engine trouble in the past or any serious mods, then it's definitely odd. But you're right. Better safe than sorry. When I had my issue, the mechanic said that a failing gasket will leak and allow air into places it shouldn't be (hence the unusual jerks on acceleration and stalling). Plus, the excess fuel could be why you're seeing that black smoke on acceleration. But again, this is just from my experience. Definitely let your workshop guys take a look and hopefully they can give you a definitive answer. Wishing you the best of luck with it! Remember, always listen to your car. It usually tells you when something isn't right! Keep us updated!

Alright, that does put things in some perspective. The way you've described the gasket leak situation, it indeed aligns with the jerks and black smoke I've been experiencing. Guess I'll just have to let the car pros work their magic then. Might be a bit hard on the wallet, but nothing compares to the peace of mind from knowing your ride is doing fine. I'll organise a visit to the workshop this weekend. Fingers crossed, eh? Thanks a bunch for the advice! Will surely keep you posted on how it all turns out. Safe travels!
