Silverado Transmission TCU Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Chevrolet Silverado is experiencing transmission issues, including unresponsive paddle shifters, poor shifting, and grinding noises, likely due to a defective Transmission Control Unit (TCU). The vehicle is in emergency mode with warnings and errors, suggesting electronic faults. The problem is confirmed by error codes indicating a TCU fault, and a workshop specializing in automotive electronics has been consulted for replacement and recalibration. The solution involves replacing the faulty TCU to resolve the transmission issues.

I did retrieve the error codes, and it strongly indicates a fault with the TCU. In your case with the BMW, were there other modules you also investigated? Did you have to remove the old ECU?

The fault codes sound familiar. In my situation, there was a faulty driver in the ECU, which rendered the whole module useless. I didn't investigate other modules because it affected gear shifting directly. Given the complexity of modern automotive systems, I'd advise taking it to a trusted workshop equipped to diagnose and repair these electronic issues. It cost me 850€ back then, so prepare for similar expenses.

Your description of the similarities to your BMW 5 series issue with the ECU has solidified my conviction that the TCU is the problem. I've scheduled an appointment with a reputable workshop specializing in automotive electronics. They confirmed that the TCU is faulty and quoted me approximately 1000€ for the replacement and recalibration. Hopefully, this will be the end of my transmission troubles. Thank you for your support!

I sympathize. I had similar symptoms on my BMW 5 series a few years ago. The automatic gearbox behaved erratically, and error messages multiplied. It was also an electronic issue, specifically with the automotive ECU. Can you read out the error memory? What errors are stored? Maybe you'll find a hint.
