Skoda Kamiq diesel with engine control light and loss of power: suspected EGR valve defect

Unsteady engine

Check engine light on

Strong exhaust smell

Shaking while idling

Engine shuts off by itself

Loss of engine power

Hey guys! I'm having some pretty annoying problems with my Skoda Kamiq Diesel, year of manufacture 2019, now already 89765 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, the engine just cuts out, the power is significantly reduced, the engine runs rough, the exhaust smells pretty bad and the car jerks when idling. I suspect it could be something with the EGR valve. Have you ever had similar problems? What was your experience at the mechanic? Would like to know more before I rush back to the garage after my last visit wasn't so great. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Skoda Rapid, built in 2012. The same symptoms, plus soaring fuel consumption. In my case, the EGR valve was defective. Lots of carbon buildup, the valve was stuck. It's a serious thing, I wouldn't drive around too much. Fortunately, good garages check it straight away for problems like this. In my case, the valve had to be replaced, after which everything ran like clockwork again! So yes, there really could be something wrong with the EGR valve. It's better not to whisper for too long and visit the garage. It's better to get it done early. Good luck!

Hey, really great that you replied! Sounds like exactly the same problem I'm having right now. Can you remember roughly how much you had to pay for the repair? And were there any other problems afterwards or did everything go smoothly? Many thanks for your help!

Hey, I'm glad that my answer has helped you. Well, I can still remember the exact amount, it was exactly 355 € for the repair of the EGR valve. That was a tough nut to crack, but I haven't had any more problems with the EGR valve since the repair. In fact, everything was fine after the visit to the mechanic. Wish you the same luck, buddy!

Hey, thanks for the info! That's a lot of money, but it seems like it's necessary to get rid of the problem. Your positive experience sounds very reassuring. Well then, I guess I'll just pop in to the mechanic and hope for the best. Wish me luck! I'll let you know about my experience. See you later!
