Skyline gearbox slipping transfer case oil
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2022 Nissan Skyline experiencing gearbox slipping and unclean shifting. The initial concern is whether this issue is related to the transfer case oil, especially given the high mileage and lack of oil change. It is suggested that defective gears in the transfer case could be causing oil wear, leading to the shifting problems. The recommendation is to have the vehicle inspected by a professional, which confirms the defective gears as the root cause.

No, I haven't changed the transfer case oil yet. Considering the symptoms, could defective gears in the transfer case be the root cause, leading to the oil wear and subsequently the shifting issues?

Based on your description and the fact that you haven't changed the transfer case oil, defective gears are a strong possibility. Gear grinding can accelerate oil wear. I strongly suggest taking it to a qualified workshop to confirm this diagnosis. Continuing to drive with this issue could exacerbate the damage.

Thanks, that confirms my suspicions. I took it to the workshop, and you were right. Defective gears in the transfer case, causing the oil wear. Repair cost was 330€. Appreciate the help!

Given the symptoms you're describing in your 2022 Skyline, it's certainly plausible that the transfer case oil is a contributing factor. Considering the mileage, mechanical wear could be present. Has the oil ever been changed? When was the last oil change?
