Sonic AC Compressor Failure

I'm having a weird issue with my 2020 Chevrolet Sonic diesel. The A/C compressor just shut off. The air conditioning system doesn't switch on, and it's no longer cooling. I scanned the system, and there's an error stored. I'm suspecting undervoltage, any thoughts?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Chevrolet Sonic diesel experienced an issue where the A/C compressor shut off, and the air conditioning system failed to cool. The suspected cause was undervoltage. Suggestions included checking the AC relay, pressure sensor, and belt tensioner. Upon inspection, the problem was identified as a faulty belt tensioner and AC relay, both of which were replaced, resolving the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey! That sounds eerily familiar. I had almost the exact same problem with my old 2016 Opel Astra. The A/C would just randomly cut out. I chased my tail for weeks trying to figure it out. Did you check the AC relay or the pressure sensor? Those are common culprits. It could also be the belt tensioner. When the belt isn't tight enough, the compressor may not engage properly. Also, have you verified the relay switch that controls the A/C compressor? If that switch is faulty, it can cause intermittent issues. Have you checked all these?

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll double-check those. When you say "AC relay", do you mean the physical relay itself, or something else related to the relay circuit?

Yeah, I meant the physical relay switch. On my Astra, it turned out to be a faulty relay that was causing the undervoltage. The computer saw this and cut the power. That said, I did change the pressure sensor as well, but no luck. Just go to the workshop and have them read the errors. It's worth the 240€.

Appreciate the insights! Took it to the workshop as you suggested. Turns out it was indeed the belt tensioner and an AC relay causing the undervoltage situation. Replaced both, and all is working perfectly. Repair cost was spot on at 240€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
