Vacuum leaks, huh? I haven't specifically checked for those. Where should I start looking, and what am I looking for exactly?

Yeah, that was my problem. It ended up being a faulty vacuum switching valve. Honestly, unless you're really comfortable with diagnostics, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They'll be able to properly test the system and pinpoint the issue.

Thanks for the insight. I took it to a mechanic, and you were spot on – a faulty vacuum switching valve. Repair cost was about 140€. Appreciate the help!

I had a similar issue with my Sonic, though I can't remember the exact year. Sounds like a pressure drop somewhere. Have you checked for any obvious vacuum leaks around the intake manifold or any of the pressure sensors?
