Sonic Camshaft Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Chevy Sonic with 245,000 km is experiencing poor starts and reduced engine power, with a diagnostic code indicating a camshaft sensor fault. The initial check of the sensor connection showed no corrosion. A suggestion was made to inspect the wiring harness for potential issues, such as cracked insulation causing shorts. Upon further inspection, a frayed wire was found and repaired, resolving the problem and clearing the fault codes.

Thanks, interesting. When you say wiring harness, do you mean further back than the plug that connects directly to the sensor? And did your code reader also report camshaft?

Yeah, traced back the entire harness, and sure enough, there was a break hidden under the protective sheathing. It was intermittent at first, which made it a pain to diagnose. Also, yes, I got camshaft-related codes. If checking it is not your thing, I'd go to the workshop. It cost me around 95€ for everything included.

Appreciate the insight. I rechecked the harness like you suggested and found a frayed wire. Quick fix and the car is running smoothly again. MIL is gone. CEL has cleared. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I had something similar on my Sonic, although I can't recall the exact year. Rough idling and stalling were my main issues, along with a check engine light. Have you checked the wiring harness leading to the sensor itself? Sometimes the insulation cracks and causes shorts.
