Suburban ABS Fault Limp Mode

My 2023 Chevrolet Suburban diesel is giving me fits. It's got just 33,162 km on the clock and the transfer case seems to be stuck in limp mode. The gearbox feels like it's slipping and the shifts are really unclean. I've read that ABS faults can cause downstream problems. Has anyone else experienced something like this? It’s driving me nuts!

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Chevrolet Suburban diesel with 33,162 km was experiencing issues with the transfer case stuck in limp mode, unclean gear shifts, and gearbox slipping. The problem was linked to an ABS fault, which can cause downstream issues affecting the transmission. After reading the fault codes, a faulty ABS sensor was identified as the cause. Replacing the sensor resolved the limp mode and restored normal system function, with the repair covered under warranty.

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar experience with my old Volvo XC90 a few years back. It wasn't exactly the same symptoms, but the transmission was acting up after some weird ABS behavior. Have you had any warning lights on the dash, especially related to traction control or the powertrain? Any fault codes popping up? It could be a faulty torque converter throwing everything off. Worth checking those things before you dig too deep.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, the traction control light flickered a couple of times, and I'm getting a generic 'powertrain malfunction' warning. I haven't pulled the codes yet, but that's next on my list. Did your Volvo throw any specific codes that pointed you towards the ABS issue?

It did, actually. I was getting some ABS sensor errors and a weird code about the traction control module. Turns out, a faulty ABS sensor was feeding bad data to the transmission control unit, and it was going haywire. I'd strongly suggest getting those codes read ASAP. It could save you a lot of headache. But in my opinion, go to the workshop, it will pay off in the long run.

Appreciate the advice! I hooked up a scanner and, sure enough, a faulty ABS sensor was to blame. After clearing the code and replacing the sensor, the limp mode disappeared, and all the other systems were working normally again. The dealer fixed everything under warranty, repair cost was 0€ Thanks again for the help!
