Suburban preheating lamp and smoke issue
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Chevrolet Suburban with a diesel engine is experiencing issues where the preheating lamp remains on, the check engine light is illuminated, and smoke appears during acceleration, particularly on cold starts. The suspected cause is a defective glow control unit, possibly due to a faulty cable or plug connection. It is suggested to have the vehicle professionally diagnosed to confirm the issue, as similar symptoms were resolved by addressing the glow control unit.

Thank you for your input. When you say 'acting up,' do you mean the same symptoms? And did you also suspect a defective glow control unit, or something else entirely?

Yes, I had the same symptoms with the light and smoke. Initially, I thought it might be a sensor, but after having it checked, the workshop identified the glow control unit as the culprit. It's worth having it professionally diagnosed to be sure, rather than guessing.

I have a Suburban as well, although I am not sure about the exact build year. I had a similar issue last year. The symptoms you describe remind me of when my glow plugs were acting up. Check if there might be a short circuit somewhere.
