Tacuma camshaft sensor error

Hey, I'm having a frustrating issue with my 2001 Chevrolet Tacuma (gasoline engine). It's got about 208k km on the clock. Lately, it's been starting really rough, and the power seems way down. Plus, I plugged in an OBD reader and it's throwing a camshaft sensor error. I checked the sensor itself, and it looks okay, but I'm wondering if it could be the wiring or the connector? Anyone else had this?

Summary of the thread

A 2001 Chevrolet Tacuma is experiencing rough starts and reduced power, with an OBD reader indicating a camshaft sensor error. The sensor itself appears fine, suggesting the issue might lie with the wiring or connector. A similar case was resolved by focusing on the plug connection, which is a known weak point, and ultimately required professional repair to fix a defective wire.

Hello. I seem to recall that I experienced the same problem in my Tacuma a while ago. The symptoms were very similar to what you described, including the error code relating to the camshaft sensor. I would take a closer look at the electrical connections.

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say electrical connections, do you mean specifically the plug that connects to the sensor, or something else entirely? Did you manage to fix it yourself, or did you end up taking it to a mechanic?

I did focus on the plug connection in particular, as this is a known weak point. I recommend you do the same. But without specialist tools, I was unable to properly diagnose the issue. Given the symptoms and the error code, it is likely the cable or plug connection. In the end, I took it to the workshop to have it checked out.

Okay, that’s really helpful. I'll double-check that plug connection. Sounds like a trip to the mechanic is unavoidable. Thanks to your advice, they found a defective wire and the whole repair was 95€. Thanks a lot!
