Tahoe Tailgate Hall Sensor Fault

My 2020 Chevy Tahoe diesel is throwing a tailgate hall sensor fault. The error's stored, and the tailgate won't fully open. I'm guessing it's an electrical issue - maybe a bad cable or plug? Has anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2020 Chevy Tahoe diesel is experiencing a tailgate hall sensor fault, preventing the tailgate from fully opening. The issue is suspected to be electrical, possibly due to a bad cable or plug. A suggestion was made to inspect the wiring harness where it enters the tailgate, as these wires are prone to breaking due to constant flexing. The problem was resolved by fixing a faulty connection in the harness, confirmed by a professional mechanic.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had something similar happen on my Tahoe. I didn't get the error code, but the tailgate was acting up. Check the wiring harness where it enters the tailgate; those wires are constantly flexing, and they can break. That's the first thing I'd look at. Did you check the resistance of the sensor already?

Good call on the harness, I'll definitely check that. I haven't checked the resistance yet. How do I even get to the hall sensor to do that?

Based on what you're describing, especially the error code and the tailgate issue, it sounds like the hall sensor circuit is the most likely culprit. Honestly, locating and properly testing that sensor on your own can be a pain, and without the right tools you might accidentally make things worse. While it could be a broken wire, it can also be the sensor itself being defective. Given the cost of a new tailgate motor, better have it checked by a mechanic. In my case, I had to get someone to check the wires and everything else.

You were spot on! I took it to the shop, and it was a faulty connection in the harness like you said. Cost me 95€, but it's all good now. Thanks a lot for the help!
