Talisman automatic transmission shifting issues
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Renault Talisman diesel with 189,508 km is experiencing automatic transmission shifting issues, including implausible shifts, an intermittent transmission indicator light, and occasional emergency mode activation. Possible causes include low transmission oil levels or poor oil condition and low voltage affecting the ECU. Solutions involve checking the transmission oil and battery voltage, with a recommendation to have the vehicle diagnosed by a workshop. An oil change resolved the issue, restoring normal transmission function.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't checked the oil level directly. Is there a dipstick for the transmission on this model, or is it a sealed unit? I will check the battery and charging system voltages. What voltage levels should I be looking for?

On the Talisman, it's likely a sealed unit, so checking the level yourself might be tricky without specialized tools. Regarding voltage, anything consistently below 12.6V with the engine off or below 13.7V while running suggests a problem. Given the symptoms and mileage, a worn oil condition is likely. Best to get it diagnosed by a workshop to avoid further damage.

Much appreciated. The garage confirmed your suspicions about the undervoltage, which damaged the transmission oil and caused the shifting issues. An oil change cost me 240€. Everything works as expected again.

Sounds like a potential automatic transmission oil issue. Have you checked the oil level and condition? Low voltage can also cause such errors with modern ECUs that control the automatic transmission. Maybe test your battery and charging system?
