Transit engine temperature warning light

I've got a 2005 Ford Transit gasoline engine with about 106346 km on it. Recently, the engine temperature warning light pops up on the speedometer. I also found an error stored when I checked the memory. Sometimes the oil pressure warning lamp lights up as well. I'm suspecting the engine oil temperature sensor. My gut tells me it's a bad cable or plug connection. Has anyone dealt with this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Ford Transit owner experienced an engine temperature warning light and occasional oil pressure warning, suspecting a faulty engine oil temperature sensor or a bad cable connection. Another Transit owner suggested inspecting the wiring harness and connector for loose or corroded connections, which can mimic sensor faults. After a professional diagnosis, it was confirmed that a corroded connector was the issue, and replacing it resolved the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I also drive a Transit, and I experienced something similar. However, I'm not convinced it's the sensor itself. Before replacing it, have you thoroughly inspected the wiring harness and connector leading to the oil temperature sensor? A loose or corroded connection can mimic a faulty sensor.

Thanks for the tip! I did a quick visual check, but nothing obvious jumped out. Where exactly should I be focusing my attention on the wiring harness? Are there any specific points known to be problematic on the Transit?

Given the symptoms you described and the potential for wiring issues, I strongly suggest getting a professional diagnosis. Continuing to drive with this condition could lead to further engine damage. A workshop can perform a comprehensive check of the sensor, wiring, and ECU to pinpoint the root cause. It cost me 95€ to get it sorted, but it was worth it for peace of mind.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the shop, and you were right! It was a corroded connector on the sensor. New connector, all good. Thanks again!
