Hey there! Not a car expert over here, just someone with a smidge of experience. Funnily enough, I had a similar pesky problem on my 2011 Volvo S40, Gasoline engine. Lo and behold it was indeed a problem with the hoses. Got the lads at my local workshop to add some new hoses which cost me about 175 Euro. All smooth sailing from there. Is your V40 a Turbo model?
