UrbanCruiser active air flap issue
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Toyota UrbanCruiser diesel with 188,268 km is experiencing a check engine light and engine overheating, diagnosed as a fault with the active air flap. This issue may be related to the flap motor or wiring harness, which are part of the vehicle's thermal management system. It is advised to inspect the wiring for damage and consider professional repair, as a similar case involved a defective electromechanism.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any unusual noises from the flap motor. Where exactly is the wiring harness located, and is it something I can easily check myself?

The wiring harness is usually near the front grille, connected to the flap motor. You could try checking for any obvious damage, but honestly, if you're not comfortable with electrical work, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. My issue turned out to be a defective electromechanism and cost me 590€ to get repaired.

Okay, thanks for the advice. Sounds like it's best left to the professionals. I'll book it in for a checkup and mention the electromechanism. Appreciate the help!

I have a similar UrbanCruiser, though not the same year, and I did experience similar symptoms a while back. Is the flap motor making any strange noises? Have you checked the wiring harness to the active air flap? These flaps are part of the thermal management system so it’s critical to get them fixed asap.
