V40 Air Conditioning Rear Ventilation Issue
Summary of the thread
The 2001 Volvo V40 diesel's air conditioning issue was traced to a problem with the rear ventilation flap, affecting the climate control. The suspected cause was a faulty connector, possibly due to a bad cable or plug connection. The solution involved checking the connections near the rear ventilation unit and accessing the system diagnostics for specific fault codes. A workshop visit confirmed the faulty connector, which was repaired, resolving the issue.

I haven't checked that deeply yet. Where should I look for those connections and fuses? Does the climate control unit's error memory offer more than just the generic error code?

The connections are usually near the rear ventilation unit, often from the trunk or under the rear seats. The error memory might have specific fault codes pointing to a short or open circuit in the wiring. Given the symptoms, a workshop with Volvo diagnostic tools might be a good idea.

Thanks for the advice. The workshop visit revealed a faulty connector, as you suspected. The repair cost 95€. All fixed now.

It could be a bad cable or plug connection to the rear ventilation flap. Have you checked the fuses and wiring harnesses for continuity and voltage with a multimeter? Like a light bulb failing from loose wiring, it won't work right. Can you access the system diagnostics?
