Vanette automatic transmission stuck in park
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Nissan Vanette is experiencing issues with its automatic transmission being stuck in park, the engine not starting, and the check engine light being on. The problem might be related to a faulty transmission sensor or the transmission control unit (TCU). A diagnostic scan revealed a general transmission fault, suggesting the need for professional evaluation. A workshop visit is recommended to accurately diagnose and potentially replace or repair the TCU.

Yeah, frustrating is an understatement! The code I got points towards a general transmission fault, nothing specific about a sensor. What was the fix for your Volvo? Was it a simple sensor replacement, or something more involved?

Unfortunately, for me it wasn't a simple fix. Turned out the transmission control unit was faulty. Cost a pretty penny to replace it. Get it checked by a workshop, they will read out the error memory. They can diagnose it properly. Could be a similar issue, especially if the error is vague. A replacement or a repair can cost around 1000€.

Thanks for the info. I was dreading it might be something like that. Looks like a trip to the shop is in order. I'll post what I find out.

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old Volvo V70. Same symptoms, engine light, wouldn't start sometimes when in park. It could be the transmission control unit. Is the error code pointing towards any specific sensor or the TCU itself?
