Vauxhall Vectra Transmission Problems
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Vauxhall Vectra diesel experienced transmission issues, including non-responsive paddle shifters, slipping, unclean shifts, grinding noises, and frequent emergency mode activation. The error memory indicated a control unit fault, leading to the suspicion of a defective Transmission Control Unit (TCU). After confirming the issue, the TCU was replaced, resolving the transmission problems and restoring smooth shifting.

Fluid level is fine, and the fluid looks clean. The error code points directly to the TCU itself being defective. Did your BMW throw the same code?

Nah, my Bavarian beauty threw a different code, but symptoms were almost identical – erratic shifting, limp mode etc. Turned out the TCU was fried. I'd say yours sounds pretty terminal too. Best get it to a workshop that knows their stuff, I reckon. They'll be able to confirm and replace the unit.

Thanks for the info. Just got the Vectra back from the shop. It was indeed the TCU. Cost 1000€ to replace. Shifts like new now.

Sounds rough! Had a similar nightmare with my old BMW 3 Series. Auto 'box was all over the place. Any chance you've checked the basics like fluid level and condition? Could be worth a look before diving into the ECU. Also, did the errors point to a specific sensor?
