Volt Poor Start High Fuel Consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Chevrolet Volt hybrid with 135,651 km is experiencing poor starting and increased fuel consumption. The initial suspicion is a defective throttle valve, with potential issues in the accelerator pedal module also considered. Suggestions include checking for gunk buildup in the throttle body and examining the throttle position sensor. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by replacing the pedal module.

Thank you for the quick response! I haven't checked the throttle body yet, but I will definitely add it to my list. As for error codes, nothing is showing up on my OBD scanner. You mentioned a sticky throttle position sensor - is it difficult to diagnose, or would you suggest taking it directly to a workshop?

No problem! If you're not seeing any codes and cleaning the throttle body doesn't help, the TPS can be tricky. It needs proper testing with a multimeter, and sometimes a scan tool to monitor its readings in real-time. Best to get it checked out by a pro, in my opinion. Could save you a lot of headaches.

Understood! I appreciate the advice. I took your suggestion and brought it to my local shop; as you and my readings suggested, it was indeed the pedal module, and after replacing it (cost me about 205€) the issues have been resolved. Thanks again!

Sounds familiar! I drive a Volt, too. I had similar symptoms a while back – rough starts and terrible MPG. Have you checked the throttle body for any gunk buildup? A sticky throttle position sensor can also cause those issues. Any error codes popping up?
