VW Arteon Power Windows Dead, Regulator Reset Required
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers on a 2023 VW Arteon with non-functional power windows due to a window regulator initialization error. The problem may stem from a recent battery replacement or disconnect, requiring a reset procedure for the window regulator. Suggested solutions include performing a reset by holding the window switch in specific positions to reinitialize the system. If the reset fails, potential causes could be a faulty window control module, damaged window regulator motors, or blown fuses. A professional diagnostic scan is recommended if the reset does not resolve the issue.

Thanks for explaining the initialization process. I had the same fault codes on my Arteon last winter. The reset process didnt work for me and it turned out to be a faulty window motor on the driver side that affected all window controls. Can you remember the repair costs for your window troubleshooting? My power window repair ended up costing around 450€ for parts and labor. Curious if thats in line with what others paid. Also, has everything worked properly since the fix? No recurring window regulator issues or control module problems?

Great to hear from you again about the window troubles. After getting the battery replaced for 290€, the window regulator initialization was successful and all window controls have worked flawlessly. The car electronics system just needed proper power restoration and initialization. Unlike your case with the faulty window motor, my window troubleshooting ended up being much simpler since it was just the battery causing the initialization error. Your 450€ repair cost sounds reasonable for a window motor replacement, considering the complexity of modern car electronics and labor involved. The window controls have functioned perfectly for over 8 months now. No recurring issues with the regulator system or control modules. This confirms the initial diagnosis that the battery was the root cause rather than a mechanical window motor problem. For anyone else reading: always start with checking the battery and performing a window reset before assuming more serious window motor issues. The symptoms can appear identical, but the repair costs vary significantly.

Thanks everyone for the window repair advice. Just wanted to close this thread with my experience at the mechanic. The window motor replacement took about 3 hours total and fixed all my window control issues. The shop found that a seized window motor was causing excessive load on the control module, blocking signals to other windows. They installed a new OEM motor unit and reset all window regulators. The car electronics are now working perfectly, all windows respond instantly and the auto-up function works smoothly. Total cost breakdown: Window motor: 280€, Labor: 170€, System reset and testing: Included Much better outcome than expected, especially since I initially feared needing a complete window control module replacement. No issues in the 2 months since the repair. Just sharing in case others face similar window troubles. Thread can be closed. Thanks again for all the help troubleshooting this!

Had the same window troubleshooting issue on my 2020 VW Passat. The complete failure of power windows often links to a recent battery replacement or battery disconnect. Car electronics need proper initialization after power loss, especially in modern VW models. The window regulator needs a reset procedure: Hold the window switch in the up position for 5 seconds after the window is fully closed, then hold it down until fully open, and up again until closed. Repeat for each window. When this happened after my battery change, the reset procedure resolved it. If the reset fails, common issues include: Faulty window control module, Damaged window regulator motors, Blown fuses for window circuits A proper diagnostic scan helps identify if its purely an initialization error or actual hardware failure. The window reset process costs nothing to try, but if it fails, professional diagnosis is necessary. Quick tip: Check all fuses related to window operation before assuming major component failure. The car window system relies on multiple fuse points working correctly. Note that this initialization issue is quite common in VW models after power interruption and doesnt typically indicate serious mechanical problems unless the reset procedure fails.
