VW Eos Diesel Rough Running and Stalling Issues Fixed

My VW Eos Diesel (2007, 116k km) is giving me headaches lately. The check engine light keeps coming on, and the engine feels really weak, especially when trying to accelerate. It jerks badly and sometimes stalls when idling. The air-fuel ratio seems off since the engine runs rough. Had a bad experience with my last mechanic, so wanted to check if anyone here dealt with similar symptoms? Really sounds like fuel mixture issues to me, but would appreciate input from others who might have faced this before going back to a shop.

Summary of the thread

A VW Eos Diesel was experiencing rough running, weak acceleration, and stalling, with the check engine light on, suggesting air-fuel mixture issues. The problem was identified as faulty fuel injectors, which were not atomizing fuel properly, leading to poor combustion and engine performance. The solution involved replacing the faulty injectors, cleaning the intake manifold, recalibrating the mass airflow sensor, and performing a full system reset. After these repairs, the engine ran smoothly, and the check engine light remained off, resolving the issues completely.

Had similar issues on my VW Golf TDI 2010. The symptoms match exactly what I experienced, rough idle, weak acceleration, and constant check engine light warnings. The mass airflow sensor readings were initially suspected, but diagnostic tests revealed faulty fuel injectors. The injectors were not atomizing fuel properly, causing inconsistent fuel delivery and poor combustion. This explained the jerking sensation and rough running. This is definitely a serious issue that needs immediate attention. Faulty injectors can lead to increased fuel consumption, drop in power, and potential damage to other engine components including the catalytic converter if left unaddressed. In my case, two injectors needed replacement along with cleaning of the remaining ones. The oxygen sensor also required recalibration to restore proper air-fuel mixture monitoring. The repair process involved: Full diagnostic scan, Fuel injector testing and replacement, System cleaning, Computer reset, Test drive verification While not a quick fix, addressing injector issues promptly prevents more extensive engine damage. Would strongly recommend having this checked by a qualified diesel specialist.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the injector issue. Your symptoms sound identical to what my Eos had. After replacing the injectors and having the intake manifold cleaned, the problems completely cleared up. Has the check engine light stayed off since the repair? Just curious if you encountered any other issues afterward. Also, what was the total cost for your injector replacements and sensor recalibration? Might help others get a rough estimate for similar repairs.

Since having the faulty injection valve replaced and the system recalibrated, the check engine light has remained completely off. The rich mixture problems disappeared immediately after the repair. The engine now runs smoothly without any of the previous hesitation or rough idling issues. The total repair cost came to 515€, which included the new injector, labor, and thorough system diagnostics. The mass airflow sensor and throttle body were also inspected during the service but found to be working correctly. The intake manifold cleaning was included in the service to ensure optimal fuel delivery. Going to a specialized shop made a huge difference, they quickly identified the root cause rather than just treating symptoms. The engine has been running perfectly for several months now with no warning lights or performance issues. Getting this fixed early definitely prevented more expensive problems down the road.

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice! I finally got my Eos fixed last week after finding a reputable diesel specialist. The diagnosis confirmed faulty injectors were causing the rich mixture issues. The shop did a complete fuel system service including: Replacing 2 bad injectors, Cleaning the intake manifold, Recalibrating the mass airflow sensor, Full computer reset Total cost was 780€ but totally worth it. The check engine light is finally off and the engine runs like new again. No more jerking or stalling. Really glad I addressed it quickly before causing more damage. The new mechanic was great, took time to explain everything and even showed me the worn injectors. Much better experience than my previous shop that kept missing the real problem. Only wish I had found this forum sooner! The insight here helped me understand what to look for in both the symptoms and repair process.
