Good shout, yes the cooling fan goes crazy. I haven't scanned for codes myself yet, but will do ASAP. When you say similar, was it the thermostat specifically? Was it throwing any specific OBD codes?

Confirmed, it turned out to be the map thermostat. Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact OBD codes, but the workshop identified it pretty quickly. Replacing the thermostat sorted it. Based on your description and the cooling fan behavior, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis.

Thanks for the confirmation. I suspected as much. Will get it booked in and have the thermostat replaced. Appreciate the insight!

I had a similar issue with my XC60. Takes long to heat up and tends to overheat, especially when idling after a long trip. Is your cooling fan running constantly? Also, have you checked for any fault codes related to the coolant system?
