2007 Twingo: Black smoke and uneven engine running - boost pressure regulator defective?

Hi there, I've got a small 2007 Twingo, petrol engine, 66512 km without any problems so far, but now it's doing this nonsense. When accelerating, black smoke comes out of the pot and it lets off a lot. The engine light flashes wildly, the engine runs erratically and twitches wildly when accelerating. When accelerating, you can hear a loud hissing noise, when idling it starts to shake and then it stalls. It also whistles somehow when idling - really strange. Unfortunately I didn't have a good turn with my mechanic last time, so I wanted to ask here first. I think it could be the boost pressure regulator that's going crazy, right? Has anyone experienced something similar and what was it like at the garage? I'm grateful for any experience! Greetings and thanks in advance.

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Twingo is experiencing black smoke, erratic engine performance, and unusual noises, leading to suspicions of a defective boost pressure regulator. Similar symptoms were resolved in a 2004 Clio by replacing the boost pressure regulator, which was electrically defective. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle checked by a garage promptly to prevent potential engine damage.

Hi, I drive a 2004 Clio, also with a gasoline engine. Had an identical problem to the one you're having. Black smoke, loss of power and these strange noises. Right, it was the boost pressure regulator, electrically defective. At the time, my garage read out the fault and replaced the boost pressure actuator. It was quite a mess, no doubt about it. Unfortunately, it's a pretty serious matter, because if you continue to drive with it, it could permanently damage your engine. So it's best to take it to the garage soon and have it checked. I hope I can help. Take good care of your Renault! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the info! You've really got it down pat. Do you remember how much it cost to replace the boost pressure regulator? And has anything else unexpected happened since then? I hope your Clio is now running smoothly again. Best regards!

Hey, I'm glad if I could help! So yes, replacing the boost pressure regulator cost me €1520. That was quite a lot of money, but since then the Clio has been running like clockwork again. Fortunately, nothing unexpected has happened again. It seems that the fault with the malfunction of the boost pressure regulator has been rectified. In my opinion, an absolutely necessary step to prevent further damage. So, hopefully you'll get your Twingo running again soon! Greetings back!

Thank you for the quick reply and the advice! 1520 € is the right price. Well, what don't you do for your car, right? That's exactly why I wanted to ask here first, instead of going back to the mechanic and experiencing the same trouble. Your answer reassures me a little and gives me a clue as to what I might have to face. I'll take it to the garage soon and have it checked. I'll let you know if there's any news. Thank you and best regards.
