2011 Fiat Bravo Diesel Experiencing Check Engine Light, Reduced Power, and Potential Ventilation System Leak

Hey there, I've got a 2011 Fiat Bravo Diesel that's done around 111774 km. Off late, it's been acting strange. The check engine light is constantly on, the engine power's dropped significantly, it's jerking on acceleration, stalling and shaking at idle. I'm suspecting a leak in the tank ventilation system. Has anyone else faced similar issues and if yes, how did your mechanic deal with it? To be honest, I had a pretty rough experience the last time I took my car to a mechanic, so I want to be sure before taking it back in. Would love some advice from you guys about what to expect. Cheers!

Hey, went through something similar with my 2014 Fiat Punto. Check engine light was on, power was down and the car was running very rough. Thought it was probably my tank ventilation system too, but ended up being a defective activated carbon filter. Turns out the activated carbon filter can cause these exact problems when it's not functioning properly. It's part of the vehicle's emission control system and when it fails, it can mess with your engine in all sorts of ways making it run choppy or lose power. Having it fixed was not overly complex but yeah, it appears to be an important component. Could be your issue too. Good luck! Cheers!

Hey there! Thanks! You may have hit the nail on the head with that carbon filter suggestion - I hadn't even considered that. Sounds like your Punto gave you a similar headache. Just out of curiosity, do you remember roughly how much damage it did to your pocket to get your problem sorted? And have you hit any other unexpected road bumps since you fixed it? Appreciate the help, cheers!

Hey! Yeah, the little bugger did give me quite a time, didn't it? Well, to answer your first question, repairing the activated carbon filter set me back about 275€. It wasn't exactly cheap, but it seemed reasonable considering the difference it made in my car's performance. Regarding your second question, you know what? Having the leak in the tank ventilation system fixed really did the trick. It's been pretty smooth sailing since then, knock on wood. No more drop in power or rough running to report so far. It's almost like I am driving a whole new car! Hope this info helps you out a bit with your Fiat Bravo situation. Fingers crossed you get it sorted swiftly without any more problems! Cheers!

Hey again! Thank you loads for that info! It's definitely reassuring to know the cost and hear how it sorted things out for your Punto. It gives me a rough idea of what I'm stepping into. I'm hoping my Bravo gets rid of its tantrums with this fix too! I'll drop her at the mechanic's tomorrow first thing in the morning. Crossing my fingers that I'll also experience the 'new car' feeling post the issue is resolved. I truly appreciate your advice and I'll let you know how it all turns out! Cheers!
