2014 Hyundai Porter Exhibiting Engine Trouble: Power Loss, Shaking, and Hissing Noise

Shaking while idling

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Loud hissing on acceleration

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, My 2014 Hyundai Porter (Gas/petrol variant with a mileage of 70,872 KM on the clock) has been acting up lately, and I'm a bit stressed out. She's showing some funky signs like the check engine light keeps flashing, there's a noticeable drop in power and the engine is all shaky at idle. On top of that, when I put my foot down, it jerks forward and makes a distinct hissing noise, which has me worried. Given some previous bad experiences with mechanics, I thought I would turn to this community before heading over there again. I'm suspecting there might be a leak in the intake system which could be causing these problems. Does anyone out there have similar experiences with these symptoms or any ideas what might be going on? And how was your dealing with your mechanic? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers guys!

Hey! Sounds like you're having a similar issue that I had with my 2011 Hyundai Tucson. Had the same symptoms: shaky engine, drop in power, and the jerking when accelerating. My check engine light was on as well. Turns out you're on the right track suspecting the intake system. My car had a leak in the intake hose, exactly as you suspected. Sure enough, the mechanic confirmed my own amateur diagnosis after doing a smoke test where they filled the system with smoke and looked for where it was leaking out. It was a bad intake hose. Definitely was a serious enough issue as it can cause poor fuel efficiency, affect engine performance and it's also not great for the car's emissions. So, based on my own garage experience, get your mechanic to check out the intake hose. Good luck with it and keep us posted! Cheers!

Hey there, Oh boy, that sounds almost identical to what I'm dealing with right now with my Porter. Feels like deja vu reading your message. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Can't believe it was the intake hose for you, I wasn't fully convinced of my hunch, but it's seeming more probable now. I'm going to ask my mechanic to do a smoking test as you did, really hoping that would pinpoint the issue so I can put this headache to rest. By any chance, do you recall how much the whole repair set you back? Also, since fixing the intake leak, any other issues popping up in your Tucson or was it pretty much smooth sailing since then? Thanks again for your advice, talk to you soon. Cheers!

Hey again, Absolutely happy to share my experience and help out a fellow motorhead. After visiting the mechanic, I can confirm my suspicions were right and trust me, it was quite a relief to have it fixed. In terms of cost, sorting out that naughty intake hose leak wasn't as bad as I initially expected. The wallet was only lighter by a hundred Euro - which honestly, considering the drastic improvement in my car's performance afterwards, was a pretty good deal in my book. And to answer your other question, my Tucson has been running smoothly ever since that intake hose leak was taken care of, no other problems whatsoever. That awful jerking? Gone. The hissing sound? Nonexistent. It's been a quiet, smooth drive since then. But of course, always keep an eye out for any signs your car's giving you, but hopefully, it's just the intake hose for your Porter too. And fingers crossed, it should sort out all those symptoms you described. Best of luck with it and keep us in the loop! Cheers!

Hey! That's definitely some good news on your end, now hoping for the same relief here. Can't wait to get my Porter running smoothly again, missing the old days. Going by your experience, a hundred Euro doesn't sound too bad. After all, a smooth ride is priceless in my opinion. Sounds like fixing the intake hose leak really made a noticeable difference for your Tucson. That gives me hope that this could be the end of my car troubles for a while. Your advice has been super helpful I'll make sure to keep my eyes peeled for any signs after getting this fixed. Will be sure to keep you and the community posted about how things turn out after the mechanic visit. Cross your fingers for me! Thanks for your time and advice. See you around. Cheers!
