2016 Volvo V90 Diesel: Seeking Advice on Power Loss, Engine Issues, and Poor Fuel Economy

Poor fuel economy

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Engine shuts off by itself

Hey everyone, I really need your help with my 2016 Volvo V90 Diesel. Recently, it hasn't been the beast it normally is and I'm noticing a bunch of issues. The dreaded check engine light is on, it's deciding to turn off by itself, I feel less power as I drive, and the engine's not running as smoothly. And let's not even talk about the jerking during acceleration and the miles I'm missing out on with my fuel economy. I'm thinking it might be an issue with the throttle valve, but I'm honestly not sure. Anyone else experienced this? How did your mechanics fix it? I'd love to hear about your experiences and tips to narrow down this issue. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey there, I've dealt with something similar on my 2014 Volvo V60 Diesel. Not a full-blown car guru, but I'd say I've got some experience under my belt. In my case, the mechanic diagnosed the problem as a defective accelerator pedal module. I forked out about 205 Euro and after replacing it, the issues seemed to clear up. Worth a shot for you. Without more specific information about your vehicle, it's tough to give more guidance. Are you fixed up with any diagnostic tools? Have you been able to pull any error codes? Getting these would really help narrowing down your issue. Let us know!

Hey, thanks for getting back to me. I haven't pulled any error codes as of yet, but I'll be sure to get my hands on a diagnostic tool and give it a try. Guess the car's age and high mileage (nearly 99188 km) are starting to take their toll. Appreciate the heads-up about that accelerator pedal module, I might have to delve into that if the diagnostic scanner doesn't reveal any distinct issues. My trusty Volvo did get a full service about 5k kms back, and all was good then. Guess I'll have to be patient and see what unfolds. Will keep you posted. Thanks again!

No problemo, happy to help! It's a total bummer when your trusty ride starts giving you trouble, ain't it? Age and high mileage can indeed bring some quirky issues, but hey, that’s part of the deal with owning a car, right? Getting a diagnostic scanner is a really good next step. Those error codes will give you (or your mechanic) a clearer picture of what's going wrong under the bonnet. Remember to pay attention to any pattern, timing or specific circumstances under which the problem occurs - that can also be a big clue. About the accelerator pedal module - if it turns out to be the culprit (like in my case), it's not something you'd usually come to know in a routine service, unless you're experiencing these specific symptoms already. So, don’t blame your service folk too hard! Excited to hear how it goes . Good luck, and keep us posted!

Hey, you're a gem! Yeah, totally agree with you. Owning a car is a love-hate relationship - you love it when it's running like a dream, hate it when the issues kick in. Excellent advice on observing the patterns, timing and circumstances when the problem occurs. Also, not gonna lie, I was blaming the service guys in my head but now that's cleared up! Yeah, I'm pretty stoked to figure this all out too. I'll keep you updated as soon as I'm any wiser. Until then, fingers crossed for good luck! Thanks again, bud!
