2017 Hyundai ix20 Diesel: Black Smoke, Check Engine Light, Power Loss, and Odd Noises – Seeking Diagnosis
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Hyundai ix20 Diesel is experiencing black smoke, a check engine light, power loss, rough idling, stalling, jerking, and hissing noises during acceleration. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the boost pressure actuator, possibly due to a damaged wiring harness. It is advised to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to confirm the diagnosis and prevent further damage.

Hey! Yeah, I was starting to think it had something to do with the boost pressure actuator. Thanks for sharing your experience, gives me an idea of what to expect. To answer your question, I did notice the hissing sound more when driving uphill and maybe when it's a bit colder, but not exclusive to those conditions. And about taking it to a pro, I guess you're right. I've driven about 32603 KM with this car since my last service, so it's due for a check anyway. While I'd love to figure it out myself, I don't want to risk any further damage. Thanks for your advice! Cheers!

No worries! Happy to share what I can. Interesting about the hissing sound getting worse uphill and in the cold, that definitely sounds like a boost pressure issue. The lower temperatures and uphill drive strain the engine more, so any faults connected to the engine's pressure system can be magnified. But yeah, you've already clocked 32,603 KM since the last service, it definitely needs a check-up! Honestly, figuring things out yourself can be fun and all, but engines are tricky buggers. Lots of interconnected parts and systems, so better to have an experienced pro take a look at it. They'll be able to diagnose if it's the actuator or something else causing the problem. Do keep us updated after your workshop visit, always good to learn from each other's experiences. Safe driving and hope your Hyundai gets back to peak performance soon! Cheers!

Great pieces of information there! I'm glad I'm not the only one who's had this problem. And absolutely, the fun of trying to figure it out myself is one thing, but wouldn't want any more issues popping up if I meddle with it. So, I'll tread on the safer side and get it to the professionals. Thanks for taking the time to respond and share your insights. I'll surely keep you all in the loop regarding the diagnosis and fixing process. Hopefully, it's something as straightforward as the boost pressure actuator and nothing too costly. Again, much appreciated. Safe driving to you too and here's to our Hyundais running like clockwork! Cheers!

Hey, sounds all too familiar. I had a similar issue with my 2015 Hyundai i30 Diesel. Not a mechanic, just a regular dude with low car knowledge. Anyway, I took it to my local garage when my beast started blowing black smoke and making some weird hissing sounds. The blokes down there told me it was because the wiring harness to my boost pressure actuator was damaged. I shelled out about 155 Euro to have it fixed. Sounds like you might be dealing with the same nastiness. By the way, did you notice any specific conditions when these problems occur, like when you're driving uphill or in cold weather? That might help to pinpoint the trouble more accurately. But my advice, take it to a professional to have it looked over. It's worth the peace of mind. Cheers!
