2018 Lexus CT200h Issue: Headlights Turning On Unexpectedly

Hey! I've got a weird issue with my 2018 Lexus CT200h that's got a gasoline engine. Recently, I've noticed an error in the lights - for some odd reason, they just keep turning on. I think the light switch might be having some issues, but I'm not 100% sure. Any of you experienced something similar and how did you manage to fix it? Particularly interested in hearing about your workshop experiences. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Lexus CT200h is experiencing an issue where the lights turn on unexpectedly, particularly affecting the tail and brake lights during chilly nights. The problem might be due to a faulty plug connection, as similar issues have been resolved by checking and fixing plug connections. It is suggested to inspect the rear light assembly plug connection and consider using dielectric grease to improve connection quality and prevent moisture-related issues.

Hey there! I've got some experience with cars - not a pro, but I've tinkered a bit. Interestingly, I faced a near exact issue on my 2016 Lexus RX350. Took it down to my local workshop, who I trust implicitly. Turns out, the problem was a Faulty plug connection. Good news - the fix cost me 222€. I'd recommend checking your plug connections first. But without seeing the vehicle, it's hard to give more detailed advice. Could you share more information about the issue? Cheers!

Hey, thanks for your reply! Funny enough, I haven't considered the plug connection. I drive around a lot for my job, recently hit 54588 KM on the odometer, and I do regular services every 10,000 KM - last service didn't show any issues though. What I can tell you additionally is that the issue seems to appear especially during chilly nights, and it doesn't seem to affect headlights, mostly the tail and brake lights. Can the plug connection cause such selective issue? Cheers!

Hi again! Ah yeah, the chilly nights detail is interesting. And I see how perplexing it might seem that the issue doesn't affect all the lights, so it's a good thought. In my case, the faulty plug connection was actually causing only my headlights to misfire - so see, these gremlins can be very selective. If your tail and brake lights are the ones affected, the problem may lay in the rear light assembly plug connection. Keep in mind that moisture and cold can play havoc with electrical connections. Given your high mileage, despite the regular services, the wear and tear can also play their part, causing connections to loosen up. Just an additional tip - during your next service, you might want to ask your mechanic to use some dielectric grease on the plugs - it helps to form a moisture-proof barrier and increases the connection quality. Stay safe on the roads and good luck with squashing this bug!

Hey again, these advices are truly valuable! Never would have thought about plug connections being so selective. It's good to hear that the issue could be localized in the rear light assembly. I'll ensure to check it first. And I especially appreciate the dielectric grease tip; will definitely mention it to my mechanic during my next service visit. You've given me a direction to look into, and for that, I'm very grateful. Wishing you smooth drives ahead! Cheers!
