2019 Kia Stinger Diesel Engine Issues: Black Smoke, Shaky Engine, and Potential Boost Pressure Actuator Fault

Hey! I'm knee-deep with issues on my 2019 Kia Stinger, Diesel engine, clocked 185,358 KM. Been struggling with a whole party of problems here: black smoke shooting from the exhaust when I accelerate, shaky engine, jerking and a rather scary loud hiss on stepping up the gas, not to mention the check engine light popping on. It's losing power, stalling while idle, and gets all rattly. I've caught onto this subtle whistle as well. I've got a hunch it could be the Boost pressure actuator acting up. I'm honestly hesitant to see a mechanic again after my last terribly disappointing visit. Anyone dealt with similar drama? Would love to hear about your experiences and suggestions on trustworthy mechanics. Cheers!

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Kia Stinger Diesel is experiencing issues such as black smoke from the exhaust, a shaky engine, loss of power, and a loud hissing noise, potentially due to a faulty boost pressure actuator. The symptoms suggest problems with the actuator or its wiring harness, which regulates turbo boost pressure. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the wiring harness and the actuator, leading to improved vehicle performance. Seeking a knowledgeable mechanic is advised to address these problems effectively.

Hey! Sounds like you're really going through it. You're right on the money about the boost pressure actuator - had a similar issue with my 2016 Kia Optima Diesel. My engine was acting all sorts of crazy, stalling, hissing, the works. After a nice little game of guess that car symptom, it turned out to be the wiring harness to the boost pressure actuator that had bitten the dust. I'll tell ya, it was pretty serious. The car wasn't in drivable condition, so I had to get it towed to the garage. The mechanic confirmed my hunch. The damage to the wiring harness messed up the signal to the actuator, the thing responsible for regulating the turbo boost pressure. The whole system was in disarray because of it. Spare you the technicals, they replaced the damaged wiring harness and the boost pressure actuator. Also, clean up the engine as it was all gummy. Quite the hassle, but it completely resolved the issue and the old girl's running smoother than ever. Not gonna lie, it can be a headache to find a mechanic who knows their stuff. Ask around, check out smaller workshops, they tend to take more time with their work and have a lot of experience on hand. Good luck! You'll have your stinger ready to sting soon again!

Hey there! Appreciate the breakdown of what you went through with your Optima, sounds like a bit of a nightmare but glad to hear she’s back up and running. My Stinger is my pride and joy, so I hate to see it struggling. By the way, any chance you remember what you ended up shelling out for the repairs? And has anything else crept up since getting the actuator and wiring harness sorted? A little weary about unexpected surprises after I get this fixed. Many thanks!

Hey, there! Yeah, those mechanical gremlins can really be a thorn in the side, can't they? On the costs, I remember it set me back 155 Euro for replacing the wiring harness to the boost pressure actuator - and, ouch, my wallet still feels it! But honestly, it was worth every penny for getting my Optima back in top shape. Since that repair, things have been running pretty sweet. The problem with the boost pressure actuator was the main culprit for all the trouble I had. After sorting it out with the mechanic, the problems evaporated! It really quelled my worries about any other hidden surprises. So breathe easy! Fixing your Stinger’s wiring harness and actuator should resolve your dilemmas. Hope this outlook eases your mind a bit - it's never fun when your ride decides to play hard to get. Keep us posted on how it goes, eh? Cheers!

Sure thing and thanks again for the reassurance. The figures are a little gutting, but hearing that your Optima is back on track without any extra headaches is comforting indeed. Guess it's time for me to bite the bullet, dig into my wallet, and get my Stinger back to its roaring self. I'll be sure to pass on the good news once I've sorted this out with a decent mechanic. Cheers for the genuine advice and the big up!
