370Z Oil Pressure Warning

Hey, I'm hoping someone can help me out. I've got a 2010 Nissan 370Z, gasoline engine, and it's giving me fits! I'm seeing the warning light in the speedometer, plus the oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up. I checked the oil level, and it seems okay, but the oil itself looks kinda sludgy, not its usual golden color. I'm guessing it's oil contamination, but I'm not sure what to do. The car has 178550 km on it. Could it be a simple oil change or is something more sinister going on?

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Nissan 370Z owner experienced oil pressure warning lights and noticed sludgy oil, suspecting contamination. The issue was likely due to overdue maintenance, as the oil had degraded and lost its lubricating properties. The recommended solution was to perform an oil change and consult a workshop for further assessment. After following this advice, the problem was resolved with a system flush and oil change, emphasizing the importance of adhering to maintenance schedules.

Greetings. The symptoms you describe do indeed suggest oil contamination. The oil pressure light illuminating, combined with the appearance of the oil, points towards a potential issue with lubrication. Considering the mileage, have you adhered to the recommended maintenance intervals, specifically regarding oil changes and filter replacements? Also, have you used any oil additives recently?

Thanks for the quick reply! To be honest, I might have stretched the maintenance interval a little too far this time. Could that really cause such a dramatic change in the oil and trigger the warning lights? And about the additives, I haven't used any recently. Is there something specific I should be looking for?

Indeed, exceeding the maintenance interval is the likely cause. The oil degrades over time, losing its lubricating properties and becoming contaminated with combustion byproducts. This can lead to reduced oil pressure and trigger the warning lights. While an oil change might temporarily alleviate the symptoms, I recommend taking your 370Z to a qualified workshop. They can assess for any potential damage resulting from the oil contamination.

Thanks a million for the advice! I took it to the workshop like you suggested. Turns out, it was just a really overdue oil change that caused the whole mess. They flushed the system, replaced the oil and filter, and everything's back to normal. The total repair cost was 165€. I'll definitely be sticking to the maintenance schedule from now on!
