370Z Rain Light Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Nissan 370Z is experiencing issues with its rain-light sensor, leading to malfunctioning auto wiping, headlights, and speedometer dimming. The problem may be caused by bubbles forming under the gel pad on the windshield, disrupting the sensor's function. The suggested solution is to replace the sensor and gel pad, which should restore the auto sensor's functionality.

Thanks for the reply! I haven't noticed anything obvious blocking it, but I'll take a closer look. When you say 'similar issue', was it the exact same symptoms? Did you also get the speedometer dimming problem?

Yep, the speedometer dimming was also affected. It turned out that bubbles had formed under the gel pad of the windshield, messing with the sensor. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed. Could be a faulty sensor, or perhaps something more complex with the electrical system.

Thanks! I checked today and looks like the gel pad on my windshield indeed has bubbles. I talked to my workshop and they'll replace the sensor + gel pad to fix the rain light sensor fault, and after that, the auto sensor should work again. The final repair will cost 62€. Thanks for your help!

That's odd. I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 series. Same symptoms: malfunctioning auto sensor, lights going haywire. Have you checked for any visible damage to the sensor itself? Maybe some debris blocking it?
