4Runner exhaust pressure issue

Hi, I'm having an issue with my 2001 Toyota 4Runner diesel. It's showing a warning light, reduced engine power, smoke when accelerating, and a strong exhaust smell. Mileage is at 85192 km. I suspect it's related to the diesel particulate filter – specifically, the exhaust pressure seems too low. I'm leaning towards a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. Has anyone else experienced similar emission control issues?

Hey, I had something similar happen with my 4Runner, although mine is a newer model. Same symptoms – warning light and all. Did you check the sensor connections? Sometimes it's just a loose wire. Also, have you noticed any change in fuel consumption?

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the connections; they seem solid. Fuel consumption might be slightly up, but it's hard to say for sure. When you say 'similar,' was it also a low-pressure issue? And did you end up replacing the sensor yourself, or did you take it to a shop?

Yeah, it turned out to be the exhaust back pressure sensor. I tried cleaning it first, but no luck. Honestly, I just took it to a workshop. Didn't want to mess with the diesel exhaust system myself. They diagnosed it pretty quickly.

Appreciate the confirmation. Sounds like I'm on the right track. I'll probably take it to a workshop then. Just got a quote for 245€, seems reasonable. Thanks for the help!
