4Runner Parking Aid Failure

Parking aid system on my 2008 Toyota 4Runner diesel has completely given up. The parking assistant isn't working. The reader shows an error. I'm leaning towards a defective cable or plug connection. Anyone else had this problem before? It's got almost 190000 km on the clock, so I am not sure whether parking sensors are just giving up?

Obstacle detection issues can be tricky. Have you checked the blind spot sensors? Could also be the control module. Is your rearview camera working?

Good shout. I did not check blind spot sensors so far! Where are blind spot sensors located? Is there an easy way to test them? I would prefer to check everything by myself before I'll bring my 4Runner to some mechanic.

Yeah, your symptoms match a bad connection alright. Given the cost, you're probably better off letting a shop take a look. Seems like you already did enough troubleshooting. Time to bring it in.

Okay, fair enough. Ended up taking it to the shop, and you were spot on. It was indeed a corroded connector on one of the parking sensors. They cleaned it up and replaced a short section of the cable. Cost me 95€ to fix it, but at least it's working again! Thanks for the advice!
