4Runner Parking Aid Failure
Summary of the thread
The parking aid system on a 2008 Toyota 4Runner diesel stopped working, displaying an error. The issue was suspected to be a defective cable or plug connection. After considering possible causes like blind spot sensors or the control module, the problem was identified as a corroded connector on one of the parking sensors. The solution involved cleaning the connector and replacing a short section of the cable, which resolved the issue.

Good shout. I did not check blind spot sensors so far! Where are blind spot sensors located? Is there an easy way to test them? I would prefer to check everything by myself before I'll bring my 4Runner to some mechanic.

Yeah, your symptoms match a bad connection alright. Given the cost, you're probably better off letting a shop take a look. Seems like you already did enough troubleshooting. Time to bring it in.

Okay, fair enough. Ended up taking it to the shop, and you were spot on. It was indeed a corroded connector on one of the parking sensors. They cleaned it up and replaced a short section of the cable. Cost me 95€ to fix it, but at least it's working again! Thanks for the advice!

Obstacle detection issues can be tricky. Have you checked the blind spot sensors? Could also be the control module. Is your rearview camera working?
