4Runner rough running poor MPG

My 2018 Toyota 4Runner with a gasoline engine is acting up. It has 185077 km on it. The check engine light is on, and I'm getting terrible fuel economy. The engine feels rough, like it's jerking when I accelerate. Also, it feels like I've lost power. I think it is running too rich, like it's getting too much fuel. Could it be a blocked air filter or maybe the spark plugs? Has anyone else had this happen?

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms on my 4Runner - rough running, check engine light. Has the fuel economy dropped off noticeably? When was the last time you changed your air filter? A dirty air filter can definitely cause a rich running condition.

Yeah, mileage tanked! I am getting awful fuel economy all of a sudden. Air filter... hmm, it's been a while, I guess. What exactly do you mean by 'rich running condition'?

Rich running means your engine's getting too much fuel compared to air, which isn't good. Given all the symptoms, I'd suggest getting your fuel injectors checked. A defective injector valve could be the culprit. It's best to get it checked in a workshop.

Thanks a lot! Okay, the 'rich running' thing makes sense now. I took it to the workshop, and they said I had a defective fuel injector. It cost me 515€ to fix, but it runs like new now. I appreciate the help!
