4Runner stalling at idle check engine light
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Toyota 4Runner was experiencing stalling at idle and a check engine light. The initial suspicion was a faulty tank ventilation valve, possibly due to clogged hoses. I didn’t notice any hissing when opening the gas cap. Where is the purge valve located? Would that be difficult to check myself?

Okay, no hissing. The purge valve is usually somewhere on the engine, often near the intake manifold - so, not super easy to get to without some tools and know-how. Honestly, for a 2006 model, it might be worth getting a smoke test done at a shop to check for leaks in the whole emission system. Could save you a headache. It's probably the best bet!

The issue was a malfunctioning tank ventilation valve and some clogged hoses. The repair cost 175€.

Hey, a stalling engine and CEL on a 4Runner? Could be the EVAP system, or even just a loose gas cap. Have you checked the cap? I'd also look into the purge valve - that can cause similar problems. Is there any hissing sound when you open the gas cap?
