Thanks for the detailed response about the parking sensor system failure. This sounds very similar to my Audi A1 issue, good to know about the connection between blind spot monitoring and parking sensors sharing circuits. Mine started acting up last week and the error codes point to ultrasonic sensor malfunction. The faulty wiring diagnosis makes sense since my proximity sensors stopped working altogether. Would you mind sharing the repair cost in your case? Just trying to get a rough estimate before heading to the shop. Also curious if youve had any recurring issues with the parking assist system since the repair? The control module connection fix seems more straightforward than a full replacement, hoping thats the case for mine too.

Had the repair done last week and it completely resolved the parking aid fault. The mechanic found a damaged cable connection to the proximity sensors, exactly what was causing the black screen and system failure. Total cost came to 95 Euro, which covered diagnostics and fixing the faulty wiring connection. The rearview camera and parking sensors are now working perfectly again. The blind spot sensors also function as they should, confirming it was just a connection issue rather than a problem with the control module itself. Much better outcome than needing a full module replacement. No recurring issues since the repair, everything has been stable with both the radar sensors and parking assist functions. The repair shop mentioned these connection problems are fairly common and usually straightforward to fix once properly diagnosed.

Finally decided to take my A1 to the shop today after getting great advice here. Turns out you were spot on, it was indeed a wiring issue affecting both the rearview camera and proximity sensors. The technician found corrosion on the connector pins, similar to what you described. The repair was fairly quick, they cleaned the connections and replaced a small section of wiring that connects to the parking assist control module. Total bill came to 120 Euro, which seems reasonable considering the alternative of replacing the entire system. Really relieved it wasnt a major issue with the control module itself. The obstacle detection and blind spot sensors are all working perfectly now. Definitely learned my lesson about addressing these electrical issues promptly before they potentially cause bigger problems. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it helped me better understand the issue and gave me confidence in getting it properly fixed.

Recently had a similar issue with a 2020 A3 where the parking assist and obstacle detection systems failed. The main symptoms matched, black screen and no sensor feedback. The root cause was a loose connection between the control module and the main wiring harness. The radar sensors were functioning properly, but the signal wasnt reaching the system. After thorough diagnostic testing, it turned out the connector pins had corroded, blocking communication between components. This required cleaning the connection points and replacing a section of the wiring harness that connects to the blind spot sensors and parking assist control unit. While not a major mechanical issue, it needs proper diagnosis since similar symptoms can stem from different causes, from simple connection problems to full control module failure. The repair was straightforward once properly diagnosed. Would suggest having the error codes read first, as they can point directly to whether its a connection issue or something more serious with the module itself. A quick test: if the blind spot monitoring is also inconsistent, it often indicates a wiring or connection problem rather than individual component failure, since these systems share some of the same circuits.
