ABS & Speed Sensor Chaos: Minicab Warning Light Fix
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Mitsubishi Minicab is experiencing multiple warning lights, including ABS, DSC, and speedometer issues, likely due to a faulty wheel speed sensor. The problem may be caused by sensor malfunction or wiring issues, as indicated by unusual speedometer readings and potential wear near the sensor. Suggested solutions include cleaning the sensors with electrical contact cleaner and inspecting the wiring for damage. If cleaning doesn't resolve the issue, replacing the sensor is a straightforward and relatively inexpensive fix.

Hey, thanks for the detailed response! Yes, I've got similar symptoms on my Minicab with 57254 KM. Just had it serviced last month, and everything was fine until now. The speedo's been acting weird, sometimes it shows I'm doing 30 when I'm barely moving. Haven't tracked down which wheel's causing trouble yet, but I'll definitely get it scanned. Really hoping it's just a sensor issue and not something more serious. Might try cleaning the sensors first before replacing anything, did your mechanic mention if that sometimes helps?

Hey again! Yeah, I totally get what you're experiencing with that speedo issue. Actually, when my Lancer had this problem, it did the same thing, showing unusual speeds when I was barely moving. It's a classic sign of a dodgy ABS sensor. My mechanic did try cleaning the sensors first (good thinking on your part!), and honestly, sometimes that's all it needs. In my case though, the sensor was too far gone, corrosion had gotten into the actual unit. But definitely worth trying the cleaning route first since it's free! Just make sure you use proper electrical contact cleaner and be gentle with it. Given that your Minicab's got relatively low mileage (mine had about 180,000 km when this happened), you might have better luck with just cleaning. My mechanic showed me that these sensors can get gunked up with road debris and metal particles over time, they're magnetic after all. Quick tip from my experience, while you're checking it out, look at the wiring too. On my Lancer, part of the problem was that the wire had gotten a bit frayed near the sensor. Easy to miss but important to check! Let me know how the cleaning goes. If it doesn't work, at least the replacement isn't too painful on the wallet, and it's a pretty straightforward fix.

Thanks so much for all the helpful info! Just checked the wiring like you suggested and found some pretty sketchy-looking spots near the front right sensor, definitely some wear and tear there. Grabbed some electrical contact cleaner and I'm gonna try cleaning it this weekend. If that doesn't do the trick, at least I know what I'm looking at cost-wise for a replacement. Really appreciate you sharing your experience with the Lancer, makes me feel better knowing it's probably not something major. Will definitely keep an eye on those wires too. I'll update the thread once I've sorted it out in case anyone else runs into the same issue. Thanks again for taking the time to help out!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 1999 Mitsubishi Lancer. The symptoms were exactly like yours, multiple warning lights, including ABS and speedo warnings. Turned out to be a faulty ABS sensor on my front right wheel. Took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. Total repair cost me around 260 Euro, that included the new sensor and labor. They had to clean up the sensor housing too, as there was some corrosion building up. Would be helpful to know which wheel is giving you trouble and if you've scanned for specific error codes? Also, have you noticed any unusual behavior with the speedometer? You might want to check out the Mitsubishi Pajero forums too, those guys often deal with similar sensor issues.
