Accent engine stalling at idle
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Hyundai Accent diesel with low mileage is experiencing engine stalling at idle and a persistent check engine light. The suspected cause is a leak in the fuel tank ventilation system, specifically involving the activated charcoal filter, which is part of the EVAP system. A suggestion to check the charcoal filter and possibly the purge valve was made, leading to a workshop visit where the defective charcoal filter was confirmed and replaced, resolving the issue.

Thank you! Hard to start? Not really, it starts normally. But the stalling at idle and the check engine light coming on are persistent. The charcoal filter, you say? Where exactly is that located, and is there a way to test it before replacing it?

Yep, it sounds like the exact same thing I had. No hard start is good, but those symptoms plus the light are a big clue. Honestly, unless you have some leak detection tools, it's tough to diagnose properly. I'd take it to a workshop; they'll pinpoint the problem quickly.

You were spot on! Took it to the shop as you suggested, and it turned out to be a defective activated charcoal filter indeed, just like you predicted. The repair cost me 275€, but the car runs perfectly now. Thanks a bunch for pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar problem with my Accent. Check your activated charcoal filter – it’s likely defective. The air flow gets messed up causing system failure. It's part of the EVAP system, so the purge valve might also be involved. Is it hard to start the car?
